Originally by: Patas deHule Well I've gone through everything CCP's support suggested, even downgrading my video drivers. Nothing helps. But on a laptop I have here, it runs just fine. And before you say it, no I don't want to run it on the laptop because it is too slow. Anyway, trying to fault my computer/ISP does not make sense since:
1) The laptop (on the same network) never crashes 2) ON my desktop PC NOTHING ever crashes, except EVE..not even Bug-Filled 2 (Battlefield 2) 3) Other people, although not a majority, are having constant CTDs 4) Nearly ALL my CTDs occur when something "happens" in the game: Approaching something, clicking something, starting to type something.
It just feels too much like a buggy piece of software. I've spammed my support thread with all the crash dumps, which may help CCP diagnose the problem better. I just hope they don't stick to the "It's your ISP" argument because it's not.
Well, it runns on your Laptop without problems. So how comes you think it is a bug in the software that runs on your other computer just fine?
I had exactly 4 crashes since i started playing 3 months ago. Which is fine with me. 2 days ago i put a graphic card (radeon 9800pro) in my computer. i got i from a friend who exchanged it because he knew it was broken. I wanted to give it a try anyway, so put in installed drivers, everything runs fine. start eve, works nicely. Only difference it made, besides beeing faster was that i had 3 chrashes within 2 hours. no graphic glitches, windows just runns fine. Just eve crashing a lot more often than usual. so, old GC in again. driver install. eve runs fine, no crashes since. Why i am telling this is, to point out that faulty hardware can be realy hard to notice. and yes even computers can break. Ram can start to have errors, even that on the GC. you might not notice anything except random crashes.
So, my suggestion would be, test your ram with this http://www.memtest86.com/ . Let it running at least several hours, better a day. If there are ANY errors, your hardware (probably ram, board or processor) is deffinately broken.
I dont know if there is something similar for graphic cards. but if there is runn it too, because also ram in the GC can fail. not just mechanical parts wear down.
